Woodland Planting Schemes: Woodland Trust

We are currently working with Woodland Trust on the MOREwoods scheme, which aims to combat climate change and protect and improve the biodiversity supported by trees, by increasing and improving native woodland in the UK.

The project involved planting UK Grown trees to varied and specific site requirements. Using UK Grown stock helped to reduce carbon emissions from transporting trees and the risk of imported pests and diseases. We planted trees to replicate nature, avoiding obvious straight lines and creating a natural woodland. We have carried out maintenance in Spring 2023 and this will continue into Spring 2024, this involves spot spraying around the trees previously planted.

As the sites were home to an abundance of wildlife, including badger setts and owl roosts, care was taken to safe guard natural habitats whilst works were carried out. Environmental assessments were carried out to lessen the impact and machinery use was avoided where possible.

Bicker Fen Substation: Triton Knoll

Dobson UK provided landscaping works and are currently delivering a five year maintenance programme at Triton Knoll offshore wind farm.

The contract involved the implementation of the approved Landscaping plan which involved Notch Planting of over 11000 Transplants and Feathered Trees to a large lowland agricultural area to provide screening to a substation.

The landscaping was an important aspect of planning permission and the residents had a special interest whilst undertaking the works so we had to liaise with them on a weekly basis. We also constructed over 1500m of rabbit / stock fencing and aftercare maintenance including ring spraying.

Dobson UK were the Principal contractor on this project so were responsible for creating and implementing the CPP, carrying out site inductions to any new operatives onsite including visitors.

Trees for Climate: Nottinghamshire County Council

Nottinghamshire County Council plan to plant 250,000 trees across the county by 2027. The national Trees for Climate programme is part of this  funded by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

The project spanned across two sites and involved: Ground preparation works including ripping and flailing, Screefing & Notch Planting of over 28000 Transplants within upland and lowland reinstated colliery spoil, liaison with local authority officers regarding species mix and access routes, fitting of tubed plant protection to some transplants, construction of over of 4445m deer / rabbit and stock proof combined fencing, incorporating vehicle and pedestrian access gates and maintenance and repair / creation of hard standing access tracks was also carried out using small plant equipment.
