From tender stage Dobson UK supported BAM in their bid providing specialist advice and budgeting to ensure success. We completed vegetation clearance in the initial stages of the project to allow their works to commence. This included specialist tree works, stump grinding and chipping of various shrubs and trees.
On procurement of the trees our office team worked closely with the landscape architect as large Oaks were specified on the project and due to Oak Processionary Moth their availability is limited. We had to ensure that any substituted species were suitable for the harsh conditions of the sea front.
With the project running through Covid programming was extremely challenging. We worked alongside BAM and were able to be flexible as to our attendance, ensuring that works took place within the correct season.
We worked closely with BAM Nuttall and their client in both a subcontractor and also in an advisory capacity, to offer our experience and solutions to landscaping issues as they arose. The landscaping was and continues to be a sensitive area on this project due to tree planting within residential areas.
We carried out a 1-year establishment maintenance on the project which included hand weeding, watering, firming up of plants/ trees and shelters, top up mulch and plant replacement.
Further planting of Containerised Shrubs and Grasses continued in reinstatement areas with ongoing liaison between Dobson and BAM Nuttall to ensure stock was not left unplanted for long periods of time and forward planning was aligned with the construction phase programming. We worked closely with BAM Nuttall and their client in both a subcontractor and also in an advisory capacity, to offer our experience and solutions to landscaping issues as they arose.
The landscaping was and continues to be a sensitive area on this project due to tree planting within residential areas. Residents were worried that the newly planted trees would obstruct their views and de-value their properties. We worked with BAM and the council to relocate any trees that were causing these issues and ensured that any public concerns were noted and communicated.
Ground preparation including cultivation was completed to allow for both seeding and turfing. We recommend timings of these to ensure they were completed within the right season to ensure successful establishment.
